Dahab

Around the Middle East

I stayed a day in Dahab just north of Sharm El Sheikh on the Sinai peninsula. Like any resort town it's hugely touristy with restaurants and hotels generously sprinkled out over the arid coastline. The town is engulfed by half finished construction projects that are now standing undone after tourism dropped in the wake of the financial crisis and the Arab spring.

The town of Dahab as seen from the south
Crooked lampposts lining the promenade leading nowhere.
Hotel-to-be.
Someone had the idea of building a castle because, why not.
At least the half finished buildings don't obstruct the view of the mountains.
Pillars.
Poplars.
